1, 2, 3… Online Photo Gallery!

After looking at a few different options, I found this nifty little tool to quickly and easily create a photo gallery for a website. Check out SFPG, or Single File PHP Gallery.

SFPG is not the only photo gallery software out there – there are quite a few options available. However, I chose SFPG because it is completely free, it’s written in PHP, it does not require a database, and it is SOOOO simple to set up.

To get started all you need is:

  • a web server with PHP 5 and GD library installed,
  • the SFPG script, and
  • your photographs/images.

Copy your photographs into a directory on your web server, drop the SFPG script in the same directory, and voilà, you’ve got yourself a photo gallery!

For an example of SFPG in action, check out my photo gallery. It took me less than 4 hours to completely integrate the gallery into my website (excluding photo editing), and all in all I’m very impressed. The only thing I find wanting is the ability for people to comment on photographs, but even something simple like that will need a database.

SFPG is free, it’s simple and easy, and it requires next to no programming knowledge to get it working. If you want to quickly create an online photo gallery, SFPG is definitely worth looking at.
